STRANGERS

One morning she woke up different

Different from the person she was the previous night

She woke up to realize her worth and who she truly was

She woke from the “land of excuses”, a land of “everything will be fine”

and a land of “there is no need to worry”.

She was tired of fighting a battle not worth her efforts.

A battle she thought she was in it with others, but to realize she was in it all alone.

No one cared, not even those who claimed to.

As she continuously found herself in the land of betrayal.

Betrayal from those she called family.

Now her faith in humanity seem to be crushing.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

One reason after the other they gave.

They all left one by one

Like the guests in the parable of the great supper

They gave reasons of why they couldn’t be available.

All she wanted was to be loved.

Loved by those she could boldly call her own

Bold enough to call family

But No, they did not want any of that.

With tearful eyes she goes to bed each night

No one to comfort but her pillow

But today she realized her worth and knew she was tired of all those tears shared.

Tears shared for those who betrayed her

Tears shared for having a big heart.

Now with a shield of iron she diligently guards her heart.

Don’t blame her for the sudden change in her.

Don’t blame her for realizing her worth.

Don’t blame her for treating you the way you do to her.

And do not blame her for ignoring those she used to call family.

For she now shares her love with those who share theirs with her

As those who she called hers are no longer her friends or family but strangers.

Strangers who share common memories
